Article: Nietzsche and the paradigm of influence studies: a review article.(Nietzsche and Antiquity: His Reaction and Response to the Classical Tradition)(Nietzsche and the German Tradition)(Ecce Opus: Nietzsche-Revisionen im 20. Jahrhundert)(Book Review)

ABSTRACT

This article examines three recent collections of essays on Nietzsche, concerned respectively with the influence on him of the classical tradition, that of the German tradition, and his own influence on twentieth-century literature and thought. It discusses the concept of influence, arguing that writers do not receive and transmit 'influence' in isolation, but rather participate in discourses that circulate in their culture and cannot be sharply delimited.
