'At Vacant Hours' is the wrong title for this collection, although it is the way Thomas St Nicholas himself represented his poetic efforts, as a harmless way of filling his time. The title gives the impression of a gentlemanly retirement passed composing occasional poetry, one way in which many Royalists spent the Civil War period.
