It was obvious by the tone of her voice and the look in her eyes. Jevetta Steele resolutely refuses to sing "Calling You," her 1987 hit, when she makes her overdue debut at the Dakota Jazz Club on Friday.
"No. It's not on this record," said the veteran Minneapolis performer, who just released her first jazz album, "My Heart."
"You have to do it," insisted J.D. Steele, her producer, songwriter and big brother. "It's your song."
"It's a hard song to sing," she continued.
