BLACKPOOL out of season. The illuminations have gone.
The big wheel no longer turns. The Kiss-Me-Quick hat shops are closed. And the windswept beach is almost deserted.
But in the Winter Gardens there is as much good cheer as a visitor could hope to find on a sunny bank holiday afternoon. The Royal Pigeon Racing Association is holding its winter festival.
Before the week is over, [pounds sterling]150,000 will have been raised for distribution between the several charities which the association supports - a staggering sum even when seen against the value of the birds on view.
