Jan. 25--BIDDEFORD -- City officials and the University of New England are discussing the possibility of creating a new pharmacy school within the city's complex of mostly-vacant mills.

Though the talks have been only conceptual, both sides say they see great potential in using the large brick buildings as the site of a 500-student pharmacy school. The UNE board of directors approved the school in 1998, provided the school could obtain money to build it.

The university's need for funding may be the biggest obstacle to a deal. UNE is requesting a commitment of approximately $15 million toward the proposed pharmacy school ...
