Sodas, ready-to-drink teas and isotonic beverages leap to a new age.
The uncertain economy, a cool summer and private label growth did not keep beverage manufacturers from inundating the market with thirst-quenching quaffs. The number of new beverages posted a respectable 12.5% increase over 1991, according to New Product News. Due to increased competition, the year saw more clear products, "new age" beverages and ready-to-drink iced teas.
