In very general terms a full-length sizing die simply requires we push the case in just as far as it will go. There are some differences of opinion, so the best idea is to do whatever the die manufacturer advises. When I adjust handgun dies, I simply raise the ram and screw the die in until it touches the shell holder and then back off just enough to make sure the die does not hit the shell bolder. With carbide dies you can actually shatter the carbide sizing ring. RCBS recommends you turn the die down until it touches the shell holder and then give it another 1/4 turn or so for full-length sizing of bottleneck rifle cases.
