DATES SET FOR VOTE. Haiti's interim government has yielded to international pressure and advanced the date set for national elections, setting Feb. 7 for an initial electoral round, with follow-up voting in March, reports AFP (Jan. 9, 2006):

The election schedule comes on the heels of urging by the United Nations Security Council and the Organization of American States that the provisional government hold quick elections.
