Haniel appoints Cordes chairman

MUNICH - Eckhard Cordes, former Mercedes Car Group CEO, is the new chairman of Franz Haniel & Cie, a German industrial group.

Cordes quit Mercedes August 31 after Dieter Zetsche, who was then Chrysler CEO, was chosen as new chairman of Mercedes' parent DaimlerChrysler to succeed Jurgen Schrempp.

Zetsche has since taken on Cordes' role as Mercedes CEO.
