It's a rare balmy day in January, but inside Ed Stoudemire's greenhouse, it's even balmier.

And Stoudemire soaks up the sun with a big smile. Last summer, with help from his son-in-law, Dean Faulkner, Stoudemire installed a $10,000 lean-to style greenhouse at his Fulton home.

Before that, Stoudemire retreated to his basement, or "the dungeon," as he calls it, when the weather turned colder. "From a psychological standpoint, I can go out there and putz around," says Stoudemire, an optician. "Previous to this, I would have been in the dungeon, in the basement, under shop lights. Now, it's a totally different environment."
