The Advertising Standards Authority says the online industry needs to work out its own regulation now or face outside control later. But some see it as a fuss over nothing
Last week the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) told advertisers they couldn't afford to abandon self-regulation in the digital world.
Speaking to international business leaders, the ASA's director general Christopher Graham argued that self-regulation delivers trust and protects the credibility of advertising. "New media platforms need that trust as much as, if not more than, conventional media," he said.
