Does the name "Coon Rapids" conjure up visions of a thriving city?
Coon Rapids City Council Member Joe Sidoti doesn't think so.
"If you heard that name in any other part of the country, you'd think it sounds like a little hick town," said Sidoti. "You wouldn't think it was a thriving community of 65,000."
Sidoti, who travels extensively as a sales representative for a major sporting goods company, has heard what non-Minnesotans think. That's why his business card says he's from Minneapolis. And that's why he's made a controversial proposal that has plenty of people talking in this northern suburb.
