The French surgeon who led the transplant team that performed the world's first partial fact transplants is afraid the effort could go up in smoke.
Speaking at a press conference in Tucson, AZ, last week, Prof. Jean-Michel Dubernard admitted that Isabelle Dinoire, the 38-year-old recipient is smoking against doctor's orders and the cigarette smoke could impair blood circulation or trigger a skin rejection episode."It is a problem," he said.
Dubernard said, however, the concern about smoking not withstanding the patient is doing fine and the world will get its first official look at her sometime in the next few weeks, the Associated Press reported.
