Levemir
(insulin detemir [rDNA origin] injection, Novo Nordisk)
A long-acting basal insulin analog with up to 24 hours duration of action for adults with diabetes mellitus who require long-acting insulin. The second basal insulin; the first was Lantus (insulin glargine), approved in 2000.
* Recommended Dosage: Administered subcutaneously once or twice daily, with adjustment of dose based on blood glucose levels. Once-daily dose administered at bedtime or with evening meal; when dosed twice daily, morning dose is followed by a second dose with evening meal, at bedtime, or 12 hours after morning dose.
