Jan. 31--Sgt. Maj. R. Scottie Johns, a former Morgantown resident, a 1977 graduate of University High School, and a WVU and Marshall University graduate, was promoted to sergeant major by state Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Allen E. Tackett. The ceremonial pinning was done by his father, Raymond Johns, and CW5 Dana Kees, state command chief warrant officer. Johns enlisted in the W.Va. Army National Guard in 1977. He joined Battery B, 1st BN, 201st Field Artillery and stayed in that unit until being hired as a full-time recruiter for Monongalia and Preston counties in 1986.
