DENVER -- Coadministration of eszopiclone (Lunesta) and fluoxetine (Prozac) for newly diagnosed major depressive disorder with coexistent insomnia was associated with larger and quicker improvements in both disorders than fluoxetine and placebo in a randomized controlled trial.
"This was the first-ever trial looking at randomized assignment to cotherapy in this way. As such, I think it's an important study that may help inform clinical practice," Daniel J. Buysse, M.D., said at the annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies.
