A GIRL of 12 with a nut allergy died after eating a single sweet at an afterschool homework club.

Amber Norman thought she had picked a strawberry cream from a box, but when she bit into it she realised it was a chocolate-covered brazil nut.

Soon she was struggling to breathe and within an hour she had lost consciousness.

An ambulance took her to Southampton General Hospital, but her heart stopped and she suffered irreversible brain damage.

Five days later, her mother Sandra had to take the decision to turn off her life support.
