Dr. John Ray Pryor made two mistakes in his life.
The second occurred when he got mildly lost on a road trip through California in 1976 with one of his nieces.
And the first?
Well, although he acknowledged it, he would never talk about it, leaving his family to speculate it had something to do with the red-headed girl he was going to marry in the 1950s but who somehow got away.
But one mistake the lifelong bachelor never made was treating patients as mere statistics.
