The impetus for this article was a desire to determine more specific locality information for a particular specimen--a Harvard Mineralogical Museum gold that is part of the A. C. Burrage collection (fig. 1, also cover photo). The senior author, Mark Mauthner, first saw the specimen in 1990 in a special exhibit at the University of British Columbia's Williams Geological Museum, which specialized in minerals from British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest. It returned to Vancouver, in 2001 when, as director of the Pacific Mineral Museum, Mauthner organized the special exhibition Gold! A Celebration of Beauty, Passion & Treasure.
