Feb. 2--Longtime CBS correspondent John Roberts -- once seen as a possible successor to "CBS Evening News" anchor Dan Rather -- is jumping to a new post at CNN.
Roberts is leaving CBS as the network continues to look for Rather's permanent replacement, possibly NBC morning show titan Katie Couric.
Roberts starts at CNN on Feb. 20 as a senior national correspondent, based in Washington. Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S., said Roberts is a "great anchor and reporter."
