Feb. 3--Twelve years ago an Illinois congressman had February declared National Bird Feeding Month. But the action had little effect on Lewis Jean of McCamish Road in eastern Daviess County.
He had been feeding the neighborhood birds long before 1994.
"It's been about 36 years," he said. "I don't remember when we didn't feed them."
In the winter, Jean provides mostly for starlings and sparrows. In the summer, bluebirds and redbirds hang around his feeders. "We enjoy having birds in the summer. They don't sing much in the winter."
The money it costs Jean each month for 25 pounds of seed is well spent, ...
