Ready or not, security targets kids: The Department of Homeland Security's new mascot, Rex, roars into Chicago to teach youths how to prepare for disasters and terrorism.

Feb. 3--Touting a 21st Century version of "duck and cover," the Advertising Council and Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff on Thursday opened a national effort in Chicago to prepare children for natural disasters and terrorist attacks, then trotted out the mountain lion mascot they hope will drive the message home.

The government wants children and their parents to do three things to be prepared: Have an emergency kit ready, a disaster plan in hand and an awareness of the dangers that can become emergencies, including terrorism.
