There are several free tools available for those of us who enjoy messing around with digital video, but one stands out as being not only useful, but almost essential to anyone making video with their PC. That app is VirtualDub. It's an open source project that the author started thinking about in high school. But now it has become a mature and powerful video-encoding and filter-manipulation tool capable of fulfilling a range of handy roles. There's even a stable 64-bit version for those few people who have already taken the plunge and moved over to Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
