Morningwood, "Morningwood," Capitol Records.
OK, there's certainly a somewhat manufactured air to the New York City band Morningwood. The pairing of 23-year-old female rocker Chantal Claret with three wily veteran rockers smacks of something that was dreamed up by the A&R guy on "Love Monkey," not a band that developed naturally or organically.
But even if Morningwood does sometimes sound like the theme park version of a NYC rock band, rather than the real thing, there's still lots of fun to be had with the glammed-up debut album. At its best ("Everybody Rules," "Jetsetter") the band slams together fuzzy guitar rock with ...
