ONE in three families faces being hit by inheritance tax, a study revealed yesterday.
More than eight million households are at risk because the Government has failed to budget for soaring property prices.
Only the first [pounds sterling]275,000 of an estate is free of tax at death. But Scottish Widows research shows that 34 per cent of households have at least that amount in property alone.
Any property, cash or other assets beyond the [pounds sterling]275,000 threshold are taxed at 40 per cent.
Many homeowners therefore will find that they cannot pass on to their families as much as they might hope. The ...
