Feb. 5--Sanderson Farms, which sells chicken products, could put nearly $1 million a year in the coffers of La Vega Independent School District with the proposed $62 million processing plant and hatchery it proposes to build locally.
That would make it La Vega's largest taxpayer, even ahead of the massive L-3 Communications plant that modifies military and commercial airplanes.
But La Vega officials talk cautiously of the plant. Although it could generate $930,000 a year for the district, that windfall could fade quickly.
