INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES IN COGNITIVE STYLES have been addressed by both scientific and popular writers. Cognitive style constructs have focused on individual differences in information processing. Proposed models of cognitive style have included field dependence-field independence, convergent-divergent thinking, and reflection-impulsivity (Sternberg & Grigorenko, 2001). These constructs are generally thought to be distinct from cognitive ability (Sternberg, 1997) and have been of great interest to educators.
