They don't like the term, but trading managers do act like 'moms' in seeing that a family of trading advisors behaves to produce results that are tailored to a client's needs.
Everyone recognizes the importance of a good mother, but in the managed futures industry, the virtues of a "MoM" are not quite so clear. In fact, it's not even clear who is a MoM or, as they prefer to be called, a trading manager (see "Who is a 'MoM'?").
What is clear is this is an increasingly powerful group for allocating funds in the managed futures industry that has evolved out of the commodity pool operator (CPO) and commodity trading advisor (CTA) communities in recent years.
