SUPRISINGLY, considering how much candy the U.S. and Canada imports from Brazil, very few North American visitors were spotted at the Sweet Brazil show in Recife this year.

It's true that five years ago the show was a shadow of its current size and importance, growing beyond piggybacking onto a general consumer products fair for distributors and becoming a major draw in itself.
