The Dhaka Courier February 10 (UNB): By Barrister Harun ur Rashid. The Bush administration champions democracy in word, if not always in deed. At every turn, President Bush speaks of the need to "spread freedom" and the "liberty". Some question whether the rhetorical promotion disguises a policy of double standard pursued by the Bush administration.
Democracy cannot be imposed from outside. It comes from people within the country. Democracy thrives in countries that meet certain level of standard in economic, social and cultural environment.
