PRAGUE. FEBRUARY 10. INTERFAX CENTRAL EUROPE - The senior opposition Civic Democrats (ODS) made an about-face on VAT, saying that then intend to include an exception in their campaign platform for certain items, including some food products. The party has been promoting a single 15% VAT rate on everything, but MP Vlastimil Tlusty now says some food could be kept in the 5% bracket or be exempted from VAT altogether. Hospodarske noviny notes that approval of all 25 EU countries would be needed for a complete exemption. The daily says medicine might also be exempted.
