PLAID Cymru will today unveil plans to gather evidence over the need for new laws to protect the rights of Welsh speakers.
The party will invite independent experts to join a commission to develop new Plaid policies on the language for the Assembly elections next year.
Plaid president Dafydd Iwan, who will be a member of the commission, said the party was already committed to a new Welsh language act.
"This is the first of four commissions the party will launch to interact with the nation," he said.
"I'm glad it is the first because the language is central to our policies."
