2. CAR SALES TARGET SET AT 385,000 UNITS IN 2004

The Indonesian Association of Motor Vehicle Industry (Gaikindo) has set a car sales target of 385,000 units in 2004. The target was set on condition that there is no big trouble related to the general elections this year. In January car sales were recorded at 27,000 units and in February sales rose to 31,000 units. In March the figure rose further in March to 34,000 units.

Among Asean countries Indonesia was third in car sales after Thailand and Malaysia. In 2003, car sales totaled 533,176 units in Thailand and 405,010 in Malaysia. Total car sales in Asean was 1.6 million units in 2003. Multipurpose ...
