Although Congress instructed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) just over two years ago to improve security at airline repair stations, particularly those on foreign soil, DHS officials are dragging their feet, AFL- CIO officials charge.
This congressional mandate to DHS is in Section 611 of a 2003 federal law, the Vision 100 Century of Aviation Reauthorization Act (P.L. 108-176). Specifically, DHS, through the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), is supposed to conduct an audit of all repair stations' security procedures, including what background checks they perform for their workers and subcontractors.
