Evraz mill to boost rail quality with new furnace
NOVOKUZNETSK. Feb 14 (Interfax) - The Evraz Group's Novokuznetsk Iron & Steel Works (NKMK) Tuesday commissioned a walking-beam continuous re-heating furnace at its rails and girders division.
Aman Tuleyev, the Kemerovo region's governor, said at the launch ceremony that the furnace was needed to meet "the market's demands for enhanced-quality rails." He said Evraz spent 1.2 billion rubles of its own money on the project.
NKMK used to have to heat rail billets three times, wasting metal in the process. Now, the mill will reduce energy consumption during the heating process by two-thirds and ...
