Decius Beebe Veasey of Haverhill, a World War II veteran, retired businessman and entrepreneur, died Friday while vacationing at his winter home in Pine Island, Fla. He was 80.
Born in Haverhill, he graduated from The Fessenden School and Governor Dummer Academy in 1943.
Upon graduation, Mr. Veasey served as a signalman aboard L.S.T. 1097 during World War II and saw action in the battle of Okinawa. After the war, he earned a bachelor's degree from Amherst College in 1950.
After a brief career in advertising working for Lennon & Mitchell in New York City, he returned to Haverhill, where he was employed by United Shoe Machinery.
