TRENTON, N.J. _ As New Jersey Supreme Court justices began weighing whether New Jersey should become the second state to legalize same-sex marriage Wednesday, gay advocates framed their battle as a familiar civil-rights struggle staged in a new century.
Limiting marriage to heterosexual couples only violates broad equal-rights protections in New Jersey's constitution, the lawyer championing gay nuptials told the high court Wednesday.
