The Clinton administration is firmly opposed to several initiatives contained in the House Armed Services Committee's $263 billion defense bill, including additional money for the Apache helicopter and restrictions on the B-2 Stealth bomber, according to a White House document.
The administration rejects a move contained in both the House and Senate committee bills to increase funding for the Apache. Both committees inserted $160 million for 10 AH-64s, heeding the pleas of builder McDonnell Douglas that a production gap would result without it.
