GLASGOW audiences have always had a fearsome reputation. Not for nothing was the old Glasgow Empire known as the ' graveyard' to English comics.
As far as rock music goes, the Glasgow Apollo was its spiritual successor.
Officially, it was 126 Renfield Street. As far as fans - and the bands - were concerned, the Purple Palace was just about the best venue in the world.
And for once, as Martin Kielty says in his history of a great theatre, it wasn't just Weegie bluster. The Apollo really did compare favourably to any other venue anywhere.
