Through its professional associations, the healthcare industry has stepped up to the plate with substantive feedback for federal government about how to remove barriers to IT donation and adoption. The feedback is in response to proposed rules, issued last October by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Inspector General (OIG) and the administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), aimed at loosening legal restrictions on healthcare organizations that want to donate EHR-related software and training, or e-prescribing software, hardware and services to providers.
