Feb. 19--Wine tasting parties are beginning to pop up more frequently around the Rio Grande Valley. Instead of toting a six-pack of beer to share, a bottle of red has become an acceptable addition to even informal gatherings like barbecues. "A nice Shiraz goes great with barbecue," said James Whiddon, owner and wine buyer for Feldman's Liquor at 2501 Paredes Line Road. Whiddon hosts a wine tasting class every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. The class of twenty samples four bottles of a particular wine while Whiddon discusses the fine points of tasting each bottle.
