Feb. 22--EL MONTE -- After nearly 46 years in the workforce, 30 of them with the city of El Monte, City Manager Juan Mireles is retiring.

"I've been working since I was 14, and I feel like I've put in a good amount of time working, and now I need some rest," said Mireles, who will turn 60 this year. "I need a break."

Mireles, who has held several posts in El Monte over three decades, will be replaced by Assistant City Manager Jim Mussenden effective July 1, city officials announced Tuesday.
