Although contemporaries viewed William E. Borah as a giant of the U.S. Senate, the Idaho Republican's historical reputation remains controversial because of his opposition to major policies of the Roosevelt administration. Borah's political views of the 1930s related to his progressive faith in the independent businessman and his hostility toward concentrations of power.
