Writer Laura Werlin has made a career out of heralding the glories of American-made cheese. It started in 2000 with "The New American Cheese," a collection of 50 profiles of American artisanal producers. Three years later she wrote "The All-American Cheese and Wine Book," which gives readers a peek into the lives of 25 cheesemakers and a similar number of winemakers. Then in 2004 she published "Great Grilled Cheese," which offers 50 creative takes on the classic sandwich.
