We are never far from our heritage. Our nation was built on the backs of slaves, our military devastated the First Nations, we have abused Latin Americans and Chinese workers, and did not allow Catholics and Irish to apply for work. Historically, we are not known for our tolerance in times of fear; in fact, we have never hesitated to target other groups for violence and abuse, because we are afraid and apply stereotypes.
