SAN FRANCISCO - Describing insurance as "uniquely suited to abuse" and "a con artist's dream," a top FBI official said the bureau is stepping up its war on insurance fraud with emphasis on unlicensed insurers and health care scams.
As part of the effort, the FBI wants to build effective partnerships with the insurance industry, said Fred B. Verinder, deputy assistant director of the FBI's criminal investigation division, who was the keynote speaker at the eighth annual seminar on insurance fraud sponsored by the International Association of Special Investigation Units.
