A final broadcasting trip down a rutted Olympic mountain:
NBC's prime-time coverage, by no means a technical failure, lacked the spontaneity, fun and drama associated with the Salt Lake Games of four years ago.
The reasons are obvious. Salt Lake was the "home team," with much of the prime-time coverage live or near live. And there were numerous U.S. athletes to applaud.
Make no mistake. Most viewers watch to cheer "home-team" heroes. But that was difficult to do at times in Turin, Italy, with the likes of Bode Miller.
