Feb. 27--TURIN -- GETTING TO EVENTS, COPING WITH FOOD WERE SPORTS, TOO: The Winter Olympics. They have their charms.
Unless you're a sportswriter.
The stirring opening ceremonies. The heartwarming stories of courage and determination. The gold-medal surprises. All that's great.
But it's hard to appreciate that stuff when you're locked in a three-week-long contest to see what will make you crazy or sick or both first -- the buses, the food, the lack of sleep, or the cigarette-addicted natives.
