Feb. 28--It's a fatal attraction. They're drawn to the bright lights on a fishing boat out in the Monterey Bay, and before they know it, they're calamari. Since 1993, opal -- or market -- squid have been the biggest annual catch, by weight and dollar value, along the California coast. But how big should that catch be every year? Local researchers have participated in two new studies that may help answer that question. In one, researchers counted squid hatchlings.
