Feb. 28--International Coal Group has offered to compensate police and fire departments that helped out during last month's deadly explosion at the company's Sago mine.

The Ashland, Ky.-based company plans to make financial contributions to agencies in Barbour, Lewis, Harrison, Randolph and Upshur counties. ICG plans to give out the donations within two weeks, said Roger L. Nicholson, ICG senior vice president and general counsel. He did not disclose the amount of the donations.
